MESSAGE FROM OUR LEADERSHIP

For twenty years, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities have kept Canadian kids at the very core of what we do. From providing financial support to empowering community programming, our work is a direct reflection of what Canada’s kids need to engage in sport and play.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to share the outstanding achievements of our team and celebrate the impact our work has had on kids and communities across the country.
2024 was a challenging year as we continued to see the compounding effect of economic instability and rising costs — leading to financial uncertainty and concern for so many Canadian families. Throughout this difficult time, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities has continued to work with our dedicated community partners and supporters to help more than 384,000 kids of all abilities access sport and play opportunities.
Throughout this year’s Annual Report, you will discover some of these stories, including those from our partner organizations that continue to help enrich the lives of children. As we continue to combat the ongoing increase in programming and equipment costs, along with the decrease in affordable sport options, we’ve seen some inspiring examples, reminding us of why these opportunities are so important for kids — and why we need to keep working to make them attainable.
Of course, none of our achievements would be possible without the unwavering support of Canadian Tire Corporation, Canadian Tire Dealers and employees across Canada and our generous donors who continue to believe in the value of sport and play.
As we look ahead to celebrating 20 years of Jumpstart in 2025, we’re excited to demonstrate the opportunities we’ve helped provide to the nearly 4 million kids we’ve supported since 2005.
We are proud and grateful to have you by our side — thank you for your generous support.
2024 HIGHLIGHTS - AT A GLANCE

AFFORDABILITY
Jumpstart helped families overcome financial barriers to empower more kids to get—and stay—in the game.
[1] Based on the total number of opportunities in sport and recreation provided through Jumpstart’s Individual Child, Community Development, Play to Lead, and Strategic Partnerships.

SOCIAL VALUE
Leveraged proven social value models to quantify the impact generated by Jumpstart programming.
[2] This estimation was generated using Jumpstart data from 2024 in a social return on investment (SROI) model, which incorporates research conducted in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and 4Global. The aim of this research was to quantify the financial value associated with physical activity and its positive impact on both physical and mental health.

STATE OF PLAY YOUTH REPORT
Drove meaningful and actionable change in youth sport and play experiences through comprehensive research.
In partnership with the Sports and Society Program of the Aspen Institute, Jumpstart surveyed 3,000 kids across Canada to better understand the challenges today’s youth face in accessing sport and play. The survey findings are available in Jumpstart’s 2024 State of Play report.

Reducing financial barriers to sport and play for Canadian youth.
The power of play goes beyond helping kids get moving. It gives them the chance to discover what they’re passionate about, nurture their creativity, connect with their communities and feel included. Although these impacts last a lifetime, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for Canadian families to afford sport and play for their children.
At Jumpstart, we know that the benefits of sport and play are endless when kids are given the chance to get—and stay—in the game. Through our financial grant programs, Jumpstart has helped more than 384,000 Canadian kids access sport and play opportunities in 2024.

In 2024, Jumpstart generated a total estimated social value of $143 million* – an average of $547 per child funded by Jumpstart.
At Jumpstart, we understand that sport and play significantly contribute to the health, social, and economic well-being of individuals and communities. Our research has shown that communities that empower their youth through sport and play experience reduced healthcare costs, improved youth mental health, reduced youth offences, higher in-classroom engagement, and more. To better understand the benefits within Canadian communities—the social value—Jumpstart is working to develop a uniquely Canadian model to help quantify this impact.
In lieu of a Canadian model, we continue to leverage international models to benchmark Jumpstart’s social value progress to date. Preliminary findings through proven social value models have suggested that Jumpstart’s investment in providing accessible sport and play opportunities across Canada has generated more than $143 million [2 footnote, same as page 4] in social value across the country – or $547 per child supported by Jumpstart funding.
Looking ahead, Jumpstart will continue to collaborate with 4GLOBAL and Manchester Metropolitan University to build a Canadian social value model to better understand the far-reaching positive impact of sport and play in Canadian communities

At Jumpstart, we are committed to ensuring kids of all abilities have access to the sport and play they love. To better understand how kids engage in sport and what their motivations are, we have partnered with the Aspen Institute to launch a new State of Play Youth survey and report.
Working with the Aspen Institute and academic advisors for several months, Jumpstart was able to survey nearly 3,000 Canadian children and youth from the third grade to high school, as well as community sport leaders across Canada. Findings from the survey fed into the publication of the 2024 State of Play Youth report and will inform how Jumpstart meets the sport and play needs of Canadian kids moving forward.
We believe that placing young people’s voices at the heart of our programming approach is key to the continued impact and success of Jumpstart. Overall, the study’s findings help paint a clearer picture of youth’s sport preferences and participation levels, motivations to play (or not play) sport, access to sport, and relational experiences built through sport.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
Looking forward to the next five years, we want to maximize our impact and enable lifelong success for children and youth through access to affordable sport and play. Our goal is to work collaboratively and innovatively with community organizations across Canada to remove barriers to sport and play, particularly for girls and equity-deserving groups. Moreover, we will focus on leveraging sport and play to equip young people with skills that can boost their careers and make life more affordable.
Together with our partners and supporters, we continue to advance our work to expand our reach and empower more kids through the power of sport and play.
