Beyond the Pitch

THE PITCH is a documentary about what happens when athletes stop asking for permission and start building it themselves. Following Olympic star Diana Matheson, the film captures two years of rare behind-the-scenes moments as a determined team launches Canada's first professional women's soccer league. Navigating institutional resistance and countless doubters, they uncover a story about resilience, leadership, and the courage it takes to change the game on your own terms.

Beyond The Pitch takes that story further.

Alongside the documentary, THE PITCH has created a free teaching and community engagement toolkit that uses the documentary as a catalyst to help educators spark conversations about gender equity in sport.

Designed for grades 9–12, it includes four curriculum-aligned lesson plans, discussion prompts, and facilitator guides that connect the film's themes—systemic barriers, pay equity, allyship, and belonging—to students' real experiences in school, on the field, and in their communities.

Whether used in classroom settings or team huddles, this toolkit helps young people see that fighting for fairness in sport means fighting for equity everywhere. Created for educators, teachers, and coaches who want to build pathways forward for the next generation of athletes.
