In partnership with Project Play, Jumpstart is conducting a nationwide State of Play survey of youth ages 8 -18 to inform long-term action planning to ensure every Canadian youth has access to quality sport opportunities. The insights gained from this survey will help serve to inform our long-term plans at Jumpstart, ensuring that the work we do reflects the interests and needs of the kids we support.
Organization Responses: Register your organization in our system and share the survey with families as instructed.
Individual Responses: See information below on how to register and respond (for Youth not associated with a registered organization).
The survey deadline has been extended to June 30, 2025 and we have added opportunities for incentives!
Aspen Institute Project Play is offering rewards, in the form of gift cards to purchase sporting equipment, to organizations distributing the State of Play Youth Survey. For your first 50 responses, Aspen Institute will provide a $100 gift card to Canadian Tire or SportChek. (Note, if your organization serves less than 100 youth, we’ll provide the same incentive if you get 50% responses). For every response beyond your initial group, your organization will be entered into a raffle to win a $1000 gift card.
As a sport provider/organization who participated in the first survey, we need your help to distribute the survey to the young people you serve. There are three easy steps to distributing the survey:
Project Play, in partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, is pleased to be using the State of Play Youth Survey to gather feedback from young people about their participation and feelings about sports. As a family participating in sports, we ask that you have your child complete the survey at as.pn/jumpstartyouthsurvey.
The State of Play Youth Survey collects the following information:
Basic demographic information (grade, gender identity, race/ethnicity, disability status) without any personally identifiable information.
Current sports participation and interest in trying new sports.
Reasons for current levels of participation in sport.
Experience and impact of current sport experience.
All youth ages 8-18 years old are invited to take the State of Play Youth Survey by June 30, 2025. All responses are anonymous. Completion of the survey is voluntary; participants have the options to skip/not respond to any of the questions.
You can access the survey at as.pn/jumpstartyouthsurvey.
Jumpstart State of Play Youth Report 2024
April 18, 2024
We’ve partnered with the Aspen Institute to develop the Jumpstart State of Play Youth Report, a comprehensive report that represents youth voices and helps provide a better understanding of the challenges today’s youth face when it comes to accessing safe and inclusive sport and play in this country. We hope that the results from this report and the ‘youth voice’ that emerges from the findings will help uncover insights that can drive meaningful and actionable change in youth sport and play experiences.
