Jumpstart’s vision is to create large-scale, accessible playgrounds in every province and territory across Canada. Leveraging universal design principals, Jumpstart’s goal (mission) is to ensure that these playgrounds become the standard for inclusivity by creating imaginative and accessible spaces where children of all abilities can share in the magic of play. Jumpstart has always been committed to supporting local communities and it is our hope that these playgrounds will become a destination - a gathering place - for communities to unite around play.

Jumpstart will work with selected municipalities in every province and territory to design and build inclusive playgrounds for kids of all abilities. Jumpstart’s goal is to ensure that these playgrounds become the standard for inclusive play, and create community spaces where kids of all abilities can play side-by-side. At least one playground will be built in every province and territory.

Every playground will be created with a universal design that provides a sensory-rich environment for kids of all abilities to promote physical, social and emotional development.

The playgrounds will accommodate a variety of disabilities including physical, cognitive and sensory. Some of the playground’s inclusivity features include:

  1.   Double Wide Ramps – Provide the chance for those using wheelchairs to roll side-by-side. It provides enough room  for these individuals to change directions while on the ramps.
  2.   Roller Slide – Provides a tactile and auditory experience while children slide. The rollers eliminate any possible static electric build-up which allows children with cochlear implants to use the slide without fear of static electricity discharging into their hearing device.
  3.   Bucket Seat with Harness Swing – Provides additional supports for children who might require trunk support while they swing.

Final equipment will vary based on playground footprint and location.
