JUMPSTART COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) is inviting eligible applicants to apply for funding through its Community Development Grants (CDG). The CDG provides funding for qualified donee organizations to run physical activity, sports and recreation programming for children aged 4-18 from families in financial need.

WHAT QUALIFIES AS A CDG?

A physical activity, sport or recreation program for children between the ages of 4-18 meeting the following requirements:
•  Run for a minimum of 5 hours in length and 5 sessions, 
•  Have a minimum of 25 participants
•  The children must be from families in financial need

HOW ARE CDG PROPOSALS SUBMITTED? 

Prior to the funding deadline for each application period (see below) grant applicants complete an online application which includes information such as:

• Details & contact information about the organization applying for funding
• Other participating organizations (if applicable)
• Program overview
• Program details, including clear & measurable objectives
• Budget details

All applications will graded and reviewed at the same time using a standardized rubric (Link to rubric).

WHO REVIEWS SUBMISSIONS?

A non-conflicted review panel comprised of Jumpstart Chapter volunteers and the Regional Manager review, adjudicate and rank all submissions using a rubric that includes quality indicators; 

Budget is allocated according to merit.

HOW ARE FUNDS DISBURSED TO SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS?

Funds are disbursed in 3 intervals for approved grants:

• 25% prior to program start date;
• 65% upon submission of child data;
• 10% upon submission of final report. 

WHAT ARE THE REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS?

Grant applicants are expected to provide a report as a condition of funding. Final reports must relate to original objectives submitted with the application.

A representative with signing authority for the organization submitting an application must agree to the Jumpstart Community Development Grant Agreement at the time of submission. 

WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR SUBMISSIONS?

Fully completed applications must be submitted by the following deadlines:

October 1 – For programs starting between January 1 and April 30
February 1 – For programs starting between May 1 and August 31
May 1 – For programs starting between September 1 and December 31


FUNDING STREAMS AND AMOUNTS

There are 2 funding streams within the CDG:
1. Seed Grants: Seed grants are intended for smaller community organizations or organizations that are applying for Jumpstart funding for the first time. Jumpstart will provide limited funding for seed grant projects that align to Jumpstart funding criteria;
 
2. Build & Sustain Grants: Eligible community organizations, that Jumpstart has previously funded may apply for a Build & Sustain Grant
