The Jumpstart Accessibility Grants provide funding for projects that improve accessibility, inclusion and safety for children with disabilities through renovations, retrofits or construction of community facilities and venues so that recreation programs and/or services can be accessed and enjoyed by children of all abilities.

How are successful recipients chosen?

How are successful recipients chosen?

Recipients are selected through evaluation and adjudication by a panel of subject matter experts in the fields of parasport, infrastructure, venue operations and disability advocacy using the following evaluation criteria: 

    I. Innovative project plan that clearly outlined how this infrastructure project would fill a gap within the community and enhance overall  access to physical activity and sport for children with a disability. 
   II. A demonstration that the retrofit upgrade will enhance the overall inclusiveness of an already-accessible facility.
  III. Evidence of a strategy to enhance the number of programs available for youth with disabilities at the facility or intentional use as a result of the infrastructure upgrades.
  IV. Evidence of inclusion of persons with a disability in the project team either through an accessibility review committee, endorsements from subject matter experts or potential user groups.   

How are funds disbursed for Jumpstart Accessibility Grants valued at $50,000 or under?

How are funds disbursed for Jumpstart Accessibility Grants valued at $50,000 or under?

   • Jumpstart will disburse 90% of the total grant awarded in accordance with the dates outlined in the Grant Agreement.  
   • The grant recipient must submit a Final Report, in the format requested by Jumpstart, upon completion of the project (no later than 10 business days). The purpose of the Final Report is to evaluate the final project against the original application. Proof of expenses and photographs/videos will be required. The deadline for the Final Report will correspond with the project completion date. 
  • Jumpstart will disburse the remaining 10% of the grant awarded, upon approval of the Final Report.

How are funds disbursed for Jumpstart Accessibility Grants valued at $100,000 or over?

    • Jumpstart will develop a payment disbursement schedule. 
    • Grant recipients will be responsible for submitting Progress Reports, in the format requested by Jumpstart in accordance with the dates outlined in the Payment Schedule. Payments will be disbursed upon receipt, review and approval of the Progress Reports.  
    • The grant recipient must submit a Final Report, in the format requested by Jumpstart, upon completion of the project (no later than 10 business days). The purpose of the Final Report is to evaluate the final project against the original application. Proof of expenses and photographs/videos will be required. The deadline for the Final Report will correspond with the project completion date. 
    • Jumpstart will disburse the remaining payment of the grant awarded, upon approval of the Final Report.
