Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Welcomes Provincial Government Investment in Grassroots Sport and Recreation

March 15, 2023

TORONTO, March 15, 2023 – Today at a BGC Hamilton-Halton camp, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart) announced it is proud to receive funding from the Ontario government to continue removing barriers and increase sport participation for underserved youth.

“Our government knows the value of providing children and youth with access to safe and inclusive opportunities to participate in sport and recreation,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “I am proud to support the important work of Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities whose programs reach kids across the province – giving them a chance to be active, boost their self esteem, develop new friendships and connect to their communities.”

“Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is grateful for the government support, which will help further our mission to give kids equal access to sport and recreation,” said Nadir Patel, Chairman of the Jumpstart Board of Directors. “Too many children are left on the sidelines due to financial, accessibility, racial, and gender barriers. This funding will help foster opportunities at the grassroots level for all kids in Ontario to play and thrive.”

The 2022 Jumpstart State of Sport report revealed that sport organizations are facing higher operating costs and a lower capacity to serve Canadian families. This funding is an important contribution towards advancing Jumpstart’s efforts to rebuild community sport in Canada and create an inclusive and equitable game for all kids.
